Director - Sales & Marketing - Nigeria


Our client is an international company and a leading supplier of technical products for the banking industry. Headquartered in Europe, they have successful worldwide operations and are currently planning to roll-out their business in the MENA Region. In order to help them expand their African operations, they are looking for a Sales and Marketing Director to be based in their office in Nigeria. The role would involve sales of automation products and services through direct sales or distributor network in Nigeria and neighboring countries in coordination with the Managing Director and in compliance with regional sales strategy.

Job Role:

• Establish and maintain strong and firm relationship to key customers and existing distributors.

• Take responsibility for contract management of end customers and distributors in compliance to internal guidelines

• Define criteria for selection of new distributors

• Attend to distributors and/or customers during the complete business / sales cycle and follow up project milestones in close cooperation with related organisation

• Monitor competitor activities, identify customer future needs in terms of product portfolio and currency automation solutions; build up a strong link to the product marketing / management

Key Result Areas & Responsibilities:

• Sales of all company products to Commercial and Central Banks, Governmental departments and Cash Centres

• Conduct of contract negotiations, tender and contract preparation.

• Analysis and observation of the market and target customers.

• Monitor and report competitor activities • Selection / recommendation of adequate sales partners (distributors, agents)

• Set targets for distributors; monitor and evaluate distributor performance; control distributor activities

• Assist distributors at important sales calls and customer presentations

• Increase distributor performance (training, assistance, incentive programmes)

• Organise annual regional distributor meetings for information and motivation purposes

• Enforce sales planning / forecasting and contribute to monthly / annual reporting and forecasting

• Gain new clients and launch new products for new type of clients

• Propose and ask for approval of pricing schemes for small and medium range products and services for distributors and end customers

• Coordinate activities with the company and its internal functions like Order Management, Project Management and Finance (pricing, launch of new software versions, new products, etc.)

• Travel extensively to the sales area (70% travel, out of which 30% is dedicated to the Middle East and 70% is dedicated to Africa)

• Train and build-up new staff sales members

• Follow up of quotations, orders, incoming payments and outstanding.

Job Requirements:

• 5 to 8 years of experience in technical sales in the African region – preferably in Nigeria.

• Experience with direct sales and distributor management, ideally in banking related field

• Should be currently working in the capacity of Senior Sales Manager – preferably in an industry which is into special purpose machinery manufacturing business

. • To be au fait with high level decision makers

• Excellent communication and presentation skills

• Capability to listen, comprehend customer’s need and derive adequate technical and commercial solutions

• Is proficient in interview techniques / methods

 • Advanced technical or business related degree
